Annotation genes
CALD1, FLNB, PALLD, PPP1R12B, VCL
Annotation rationales
Quiescent stellate cells interlace sinusoids and contain smooth-muscle–like apparatus. PALLD/VCL/FLNB organize focal adhesions/stress fibers; CALD1 regulates actomyosin tension; PPP1R12B adjusts myosin phosphatase to set tone. VIPR1 and DDAH1 (NO pathway) couple neurohumoral signals to contraction/relaxation.
Functional implications
Modulates sinusoidal caliber and portal resistance, transmits mechanical cues to hepatocytes/LSECs, and contracts wound edges after injury. Excess tone promotes capillarization and contributes to portal hypertension.
