Marker genes
AQP2, AQP3, AVPR2, SCNN1A, SCNN1B, SCNN1G
Annotation genes
AQP2, AVPR2, SCNN1G, AQP3
Annotation rationales
Renal principal cells are collecting-duct epithelial cells specialized for vasopressin-regulated water permeability and epithelial sodium transport. AQP2 and AVPR2 define the antidiuretic response.
Functional implications
They determine final urine concentration, recover sodium and water and facilitate potassium secretion to maintain volume and electrolyte homeostasis.
