Marker genes

CCL4, CCL4L2, FCGR3A, IFNG, KLRC4, KLRD1, KLRK1, LAG3, TNF, XCL2

Annotation genes

CCL4, IFNG, KLRC4, KLRD1, KLRK1

Annotation rationales

KLRC4/KLRD1 (CD94/NKG2) and KLRK1 (NKG2D) add stress-ligand sensing like NK cells; IFNG/TNF deliver potent macrophage-activating cytokines; CCL4 recruits additional cytotoxic cells; LAG3 tempers activation under chronic antigen. Together (KLRC4, KLRD1, KLRK1, IFNG, CCL4) define an adaptive NK-like reprogramming within CD4 CTLs.

Functional implications

Provide rapid, receptor-driven cytotoxicity even when antigen presentation is suboptimal (e.g., MHC modulation by viruses), while orchestrating local recruitment via CCL4 and constraining damage with LAG3.

Marker and functional descriptions are atlas annotations. Explore gene expression, trait associations and regulatory elements in the interactive browsers; see the browser guide.
