Marker genes
BCL3, CEBPB, DES, MIR4435-2HG, MT1M, MYC, NNMT, SERPINA3, SOCS3, SOD2
Annotation genes
MYC, NNMT, SOCS3, SOD2
Annotation rationales
Within hours of damage, satellite cells enter a biosynthetic/proliferative ramp: MYC drives ribosome biogenesis and nucleotide flux; NNMT rewires NAD⁺/methyl-donor balance to fuel growth. SOD2 and MT1M buffer mitochondrial ROS/metal stress generated by hypercontraction and macrophage respiratory bursts. Cytokine tuning via SOCS3 (JAK–STAT brake) and BCL3/CEBPB keeps IL-6/IFN signals in a pro-regenerative range. DES (desmin) maintains a myogenic cytoskeleton as cells ready for asymmetric division.
Functional implications
Expand the progenitor pool while resisting oxidative/inflammatory stress. Produce daughter cells that bifurcate into self-renewing and committed myoblast fates, ensuring adequate myonuclei supply for regeneration without exhausting the stem-cell compartment.
