Marker genes
ARHGAP9, CCL20, DGUOK-AS1, ITGA5, ITPKA, LINC01807, MEIS2, PIEZO1, RCL1, ROR1-AS1, SPOCD1, SRM, TENM3, TNIK
Annotation genes
CCL20, ITGA5, PIEZO1
Annotation rationales
The cervix experiences shear/stretch and frequent microtrauma; PIEZO1 directly converts membrane tension into Ca²⁺ signals that can trigger chemokine output. ITGA5 (α5β1 receptor for fibronectin) anchors these cells to provisional matrix during microinjury, boosting mechanosensitive signaling. CCL20 recruitment of CCR6⁺ dendritic cells/Th17 cells is typical at mucosal borders and supports antimicrobial vigilance. ARHGAP9/ITPKA suggest actin–Ca²⁺ coupling for rapid mechanotransductive polarity changes.
Functional implications
A stretch-alarm and immune relay: upon deformation, PIEZO1 activation drives CCL20 release to attract sentinels, while ITGA5-mediated adhesion stabilizes the responding cell. Net effect: fast leukocyte positioning, epithelial surveillance, and microlesion containment without overt fibrosis.
