Annotation rationales

Adventitial fibroblasts are key innate-immunity suppliers for vessel walls. Local production of complement (C1R/C3/C7/CFD) primes opsonization while SERPING1 brakes activation to avoid bystander damage. SPARCL1 and DCN sculpt the pericellular matrix and influence endothelial quiescence; SERPINF1 (PEDF) adds anti-angiogenic tone. MMP2 loosens perivascular collagen to accommodate remodeling and immune cell transit.

Functional implications

Serves as an “angiocrine-immune” hub: meters complement on the vessel exterior, suppresses exuberant sprouting, and shapes ECM porosity so leukocytes can access inflamed endothelium without compromising wall integrity.
