Tracheal suprabasal cells are differentiating airway epithelial cells positioned between basal progenitors and mature luminal lineages. KRT4 and KRT13 mark their early post-basal differentiation program.
Functional implications
They provide a transitional barrier population and contribute cells for restoration of the luminal epithelium during routine turnover and repair.
