Marker genes
FOXN1, PSMB11, PRSS16, DLL4, KRT8, CCL25
Annotation genes
PSMB11, PRSS16, DLL4, FOXN1
Annotation rationales
Cortical thymic epithelial cells form the stromal scaffold of the thymic cortex and express specialized antigen-processing and Notch-ligand machinery. PSMB11 and PRSS16 distinguish their role in early T-cell selection.
Functional implications
They support thymocyte commitment and survival and positively select T-cell receptors capable of recognizing self-MHC.
