Marker genes
POU2F3, TRPM5, IL17RB, AVIL, DCLK1
Annotation genes
POU2F3, TRPM5, IL17RB, AVIL
Annotation rationales
Colonic tuft cells are POU2F3-dependent chemosensory epithelial cells characterized by taste-transduction machinery and a prominent apical tuft. TRPM5 and IL17RB support their sensory and type-2-response identity.
Functional implications
They detect luminal metabolites and parasites and initiate epithelial–immune signaling that promotes type-2 immunity and mucosal remodeling.
