Marker genes

EMP1, FOS, FOSB, NR4A1, NR4A2

Annotation genes

FOSB, NR4A1, NR4A2

Annotation rationales

FOS/FOSB (AP-1) and NR4A1/NR4A2 are canonical immediate-early genes induced within minutes of stress, shear, or ischemic cues. EMP1 supports adhesion and stress response. This reflects endothelial cells in an acute response phase, rapidly reprogramming transcription before structural changes occur.

Functional implications

First responders to hemodynamic or ischemic stress: trigger rapid transcriptional bursts that initiate angiogenesis, vasodilation, and barrier adjustment. They provide an early alarm/activation state that primes downstream remodeling and immune interactions within the heart endothelium.

Marker and functional descriptions are atlas annotations. Explore gene expression, trait associations and regulatory elements in the interactive browsers; see the browser guide.
