Marker genes

B2M, BEST3, CCND1, CD82, CDH19, HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C, ITM2A, MT3

Annotation genes

B2M, CCND1, CDH19, HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C

Annotation rationales

The annotation genes capture two axes: proliferation (CCND1) and immune surveillance via MHC-I (HLA-A/HLA-B/HLA-C with B2M). CDH19 is associated with early glial/Schwann-like precursors and myelinating lineage potential. This suggests OPCs responding to inflammatory milieu, upregulating antigen presentation while remaining in a cycling, primed state.

Functional implications

Expand OPC numbers during inflammation/injury, present self/viral peptides to CD8⁺ T cells (tuning local immunity), and retain competence to differentiate into OLs once the environment becomes permissive—thus coupling immune sensing to remyelination capacity.

Marker and functional descriptions are atlas annotations. Explore gene expression, trait associations and regulatory elements in the interactive browsers; see the browser guide.
