HSPE1

Annotation rationales

HSPE1 (HSP10) marks activation of the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPR^mt), a key OL safeguard because myelin biogenesis is energetically intense and lipid-rich. Upregulating HSPE1 buffers chaperonin demand to maintain oxidative phosphorylation and prevent proteotoxic collapse during high sheath production or inflammatory/oxidative stress.

Functional implications

Preserve ATP supply and myelin proteome integrity under stress (hypoxia, inflammation, metabolic load), thereby preventing conduction failure and demyelination. This state transiently prioritizes organelle quality control to keep mature myelinating OLs functional.

Marker and functional descriptions are atlas annotations. Explore gene expression, trait associations and regulatory elements in the interactive browsers; see the browser guide.
