Marker genes

BMP2K, CNRIP1, CTNNBL1, CYTOR, FBXO7, FCER1A, GATA1, GATA2, ICAM4, MINPP1, MPP1, NAA38, PDLIM1, PKIG, PRKAR2B, PSTPIP2, SLC40A1, SMIM1, SNX5, TFR2

Annotation genes

GATA1, GATA2, ICAM4, SMIM1, TFR2

Annotation rationales

GATA1/GATA2 orchestrate erythroid/megakaryocytic fate; ICAM4 (LW blood group) and SMIM1 (Vel antigen) are erythroid surface markers; TFR2 integrates iron availability with erythropoiesis. Presence of platelet/megakaryocyte-affiliated modules with red-cell antigens defines a classical MEP engaged in heme synthesis, enucleation programs, and thrombopoiesis.

Functional implications

Produce erythrocytes and platelets in proportion to iron and growth-factor cues (TFR2, GATA1/2). Elevate oxygen-carrying capacity and hemostatic readiness in rapidly growing neonates; tune red-cell membrane maturation (ICAM4/SMIM1) en route to reticulocyte release.
