Marker genes
KRT5, KRT14, TP63, KRT15, KRT17, ITGA6
Annotation genes
TP63, KRT5, KRT14, KRT15
Annotation rationales
Tracheal basal cells are airway epithelial progenitors attached to the basement membrane beneath luminal cells. Their TP63-positive keratin program supports both structural anchorage and multipotency.
Functional implications
They maintain the tracheal lining and expand after injury to regenerate secretory, ciliated and other luminal epithelial cells.
More specific populations
Marker and functional descriptions are atlas annotations. Explore gene expression, trait associations and regulatory elements in the interactive browsers; see the browser guide.
