Marker genes
CCND1, DCXR, FGF13, HLA-DMB, MEF2C, MFAP2, MUC12, PDLIM2, PRAME, RAC2, RAC3, RNASE7, SLC14A1, STX11, TMEM92
Annotation genes
CCND1, HLA-DMB, MEF2C, RAC2
Annotation rationales
This mTEC compartment renews while maintaining high MHC-II peptide loading (HLA-DMB) and cytoskeletal remodeling (RAC2/3) for thymocyte interactions. MEF2C integrates proliferative and differentiation cues, and RNASE7 adds epithelial antimicrobial defense.
Functional implications
Replenishes the mTEC antigen-presenting pool to prevent “holes” in tolerance as cells senesce. Keeps apical junctions/contacts compatible with long thymocyte dwell times, sustaining efficient negative selection while preserving epithelial barrier integrity.
Marker and functional descriptions are atlas annotations. Explore gene expression, trait associations and regulatory elements in the interactive browsers; see the browser guide.
