Marker genes
MUC5B, MUC5AC, WFDC2, PAX8, KRT8, KRT18
Annotation genes
MUC5B, WFDC2, PAX8, KRT8
Annotation rationales
Endocervical secretory cells are columnar glandular epithelial cells that produce mucins and protective secreted factors. PAX8 and simple keratins support their Müllerian glandular identity.
Functional implications
They generate cervical mucus that lubricates the canal, limits microbial access and changes composition to regulate sperm passage across the reproductive cycle.
More specific populations
Marker and functional descriptions are atlas annotations. Explore gene expression, trait associations and regulatory elements in the interactive browsers; see the browser guide.
