SOCS5
Annotation rationales
SOCS5 is an inducible suppressor of cytokine signaling that brakes JAK–STAT cascades downstream of IL-6/IL-11/type-I IFNs. In cardiomyocytes, curbing STAT overdrive limits maladaptive gene programs (hypertrophy/fibrosis/inflammation). The sparse signature and lack of canonical stress/hypertrophy modules suggest a signaling-tone adjustment rather than a lineage/state switch.
Functional implications
Cytokine-tone buffers that damp paracrine inflammation from endothelium/immune cells during chronic stress or infection. By restraining JAK–STAT, they help preserve excitation–contraction coupling, reduce leukocyte recruitment signals from myocardium, and protect against adverse remodeling while maintaining pump function.
